Typography 4 (GDES301)

The task for this project is to create a kinetic typography piece using type and motion design. At my brother’s suggestion, I based my piece on Rod Sterling’s closing narration for episode 65 of The Twilight Zone, The Obsolete Man. I had fun brainstorming a handful of audio clips and songs I liked, with varying levels of potential for this project. I settled on a narration for The Twilight Zone because of Sterling’s striking voice, and because I thought it would lend to interesting stylization opportunities.
The narration has several instances of words being repeated. Not stuttered, but repeated in different contexts. The first line, for instance, reads “The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct.” For these instances of reusing words, I wanted to do something interesting. For this opening line, I emphasize the word “late” and the new contextual meaning it provides. Even the word “obsolete” is used again by the end, and I wanted to give it the same emphasis, coming full circle.
Full disclosure: This project is still being worked on, and there isn’t anything of much worth to show at this point. As of now, it’s proving to be a challenge in motion design, but a good learning exercise.
